The Story

Finca La Picona, situated in the Las Manos community of Dipilto, Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua, belongs to Martha Lucía Albir Sotomayor, adding it to three other farms and her co-ownership of the dry mill Cafetos de Segovia.  This nine-hectare farm produces around 90 quintals of coffee each year. A variety of coffees, including Geisha, Caturra, Java and Catuaí, are grown under natural shade from native trees and fruit plants. The farm uses a mix of organic nutrients, compost and careful pruning to keep the plants healthy and support responsible production.

Maracaturra is a rare large-bean hybrid of Maragogyoe and Caturra resulting in a juicy, complex cup with medium body and molasses sweetness.

Ripe cherries are hand picked, taken to Finca Bethania, where washed process follows of cherry selection, flotation eighteen-hour rest, then the washed coffee ferments in tanks for 24-36 hours, before the coffee is ready for export.
