The Story
Hugo Dominguez is a smallholder producer based in the Nariño region of Southwestern Colombia. This is a naturally processed, caturra lot, harvested and dried on concrete patios on Hugo's farm, and then sold to our cooperative partners PROCAAL for milling and export.
Nariño is a key coffee growing region for Triple Co, as it's where we source all of our BS1 espresso and Decaf. And in the past 30 years, it's gone from virtually unknown among specialty coffee buyers to being the region with perhaps the best reputation for quality coffee in all of Colombia.
It was the first to be awarded its own Denomination of Origin (DO) in 2011, and with Huila, regularly dominates the Cup of Excellence competition in Colombia. Nariño's reputation for quality is in part due to its ideal geography: Fertile, volcanic soils in the mountains. Together with cool temperatures and ample sunlight at high altitudes, ensure that coffees develop remarkable acidity, sweetness and complex flavours. And this is perfectly reflected with this lot from Hugo.
