The Story

Madagascar | Zebu Estate | Whole Bean

Mada-hooha? Not Hoo-ha, ascar... Another first for us here at Triple Co, we are roasting coffee from the only Arabica coffee farm in Madagascar.

It's not often that a coffee comes along and really blows you over. This coffee is rare and its tasty, with notes of tangy clementine and sticky toffee. This is closely followed by a more floral, wild hibiscus ending. It's a really interesting and complex coffee, that has honestly shocked us. Lower altitudes usually correlate to a sweeter and richer coffee, much like Brazilian's do. This however doesn't comply with that rule and boasts big fruits and floral notes.

When James from Omwani approached us with the opportunity to work with this small scale and almost unheard of origin, we snapped at it! Recognising the potential of this emerging origin, Omwani has partnered with the owners of Zebu Estate to accelerate production over the next 5 years. Taking their learnings from the Rwenzori Mountains they have plans of scaling production of this unique origin over the coming years to a volume that will provide economic stability for the region, maintain the quality and reduce the costs for everyone.

As a customer, you have the benefit of backing an initiative that promotes genuine economic impact while being provided a delightful single-origin brew. The Zebu estate benefits from the support of partners based in Europe buying into a project that will in the coming years provide for thousands of individuals connected to the only Arabica Coffee Farm in Madagascar

The Farm:

Nestled in a fertile volcanic region of Itasy, Madagascar Zebu Coffee was born. From an enthusiast's passion for a socially responsible community coffee that has grown and boosted the local economy.

Since the bourbon varietal’s introduction to madagascar, production reached a peak of 2% of the worlds coffee output in the early 90’s followed by a rapid decline due to lack of investment, infrastructure and political instability.

Zebu Coffee Estate is trying to change this by cultivating Arabica Typica and Bourbon using only natural and organic methods all the while employing local villagers. Helping the local community economically as well as implementing several other initiatives to support the region.

Pre-order. 30 bags only, very limited. Roast date 26th November.
