Las Morenitas is one of seven farms spanning Jinotega, owned by Victor Robelo as part of the Las Nubes group. Acquired in 2011, the farm is predominantly planted with Caturra, while areas previously dedicated to Catimor have been replanted with Marsellesa—a promising varietal thriving in Nicaragua and Mexico. A cross between Hybrido de Timor and Villa Sarchi, Marsellesa was developed through a pedigree selection process in Nicaragua, balancing exceptional cup quality with resilience against coffee leaf rust. It is also part of the WCR Verified program.
Committed to fair compensation, Las Morenitas pays its workers 35% above the market rate, ensuring the best pickers return each harvest season and are rewarded for their skill and dedication. Farm operations are led by engineer Ismael Gonzales, with a strong emphasis on teamwork as the key to success.
The coffee is meticulously picked and processed at the farm’s own wet mill under the supervision of Production Manager Jimmy Valenzuela, with final cupping overseen by Jeyson Chavarria to uphold quality standards. Their dedication to excellence has earned Las Morenitas recognition in the prestigious Cup of Excellence. Jintotega, the region where this coffee is grown is known for its 'cerámica negra' - deep black ceramic pots.
