The Story
The return of Amelio Santacruz! Many of you loved this coffee for our last house filter, so we were keen to get fresh crop in again this year - As some of you know, Amelio is part of the same cooperative of producers that we buy our BS1 Espresso from. He produces lots that are a fantastic expression of fully washed coffees from the Nariño region; Bright, crisp and clean with a caramel sweetness. Similar to our BS1, but roasted for filter.
Nariño shares a southern border with Ecuador and is home to thousands of smallholder coffee producing families. Colombia’s three ranges of Andean mountains converge in Nariño, presenting ideal altitudes and fertile soil for high grown Arabica production.
The particular geography of this region, and proximity to coastal and land borders have historically transformed it into a corridor for illicit trade routes, resulting in unwarranted violence against residents of remote mountain farms. Today, thanks to the particularly resilient and fearless spirit of Nariño’s farmers, the small region is a respected nucleus of coffee innovation.
